Passage: Genesis 4:8,9*

8. Now Cain said to his brother Abel, "Let's go out into the field." And while they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him.

9. Then the LORD said to Cain, "Where is your brother Abel?" "I don't know," he replied. "Am I my brother's keeper?"

Questions

1. How does the seduction of Abel in V8 relate to the seduction of your heart by a pornographic web site?

2. Is jealousy a component of the lure of pornography for you -- wanting something that is not rightfully yours?

Practical help

Cain proves here that he can also ask rhetorical questions (questions to which he already knows the answer). But somehow, it's not as effective as when God does it. It's not as effective because the right answer isn't the one Cain had in mind.

Cain's attack on Abel, and his subsequent conversation with God, indicated that the concept of caring for his brother was totally foreign to him. He was completely self-centered. His anger burned because he wanted what Abel had for himself. He could not rejoice in the beauty of Abel's offering, and God's acceptance of his brother. Don't be like Cain and let jealousy take over your heart.

The enticement offered by pornography should not fool you into thinking that the purveyors of this material have any good thing to offer you, or that they care one bit for your spiritual health. Their advertisements are a siren's call, designed to lure you into the field where they can destroy you. They want you isolated where nobody around can save you or hear your cry, which is why the web is so effective. Don't be like Abel and let yourself be tricked into the field.
