Passage: Proverbs
22:3*
A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge, but the simple keep
going and suffer for it.
Questions
1. Given that they have equal vision, why does the prudent man see
something that the simple (or naive) man doesn't?
2. Assume both a prudent man and a simple [naive] man are presented
a pornographic image. Write down what you think each one sees beyond the initial allure of
the image?
Practical help
Pornographers bank on the majority of their victims having simple
(naive) vision. They hope their initial images are so enticing that what you can see now
overrules what you could see with a prudent look beyond the image.
This proverb tells us prudent people (click
here to see a study on prudence) have better vision because when they look they
see more. They see beyond the immediate. They see through the surface. They see the bigger
picture which includes themselves and what might happen down the road. Not only do prudent
people have better vision, but once they see the danger they take appropriate action. In
this case finding refuge away from the danger.
If your eyes have been leading you down the wrong path, and you're
suffering, maybe it's time for an eye exam. Prescription: Prudent Vision.
