Questions

1. In this verse, the apostle Paul prays for Christians. Put in your own words what Paul is praying here.

2. Paul implies that these Christians for whom he is praying are already loving people. What in this verse would lead you to that conclusion?

3. Paul addresses the issues of the quantity and the quality of love in this verse. What words in this verse bring quantity growth to your mind? What "quality" words do you find in this verse?

Practical help

The Great Commandment of Jesus is that His followers should love well. (John 13:34-35) Right in line with the spirit of Jesus, Paul prays here that Christians will love well. In this verse, Paul helps us to become people who love well. Our love is to be of a certain quality. It is to be according to real knowledge and it is to be discerning. How does this verse fit with the issue of Internet porn? Like this:

A big piece of the attraction of pornography lies in its falseness. It is sex without touching; intimacy without the danger of vulnerability; "love" without real knowledge. Like all counterfeit experiences, an encounter with a sexual image on a computer screen is unsatisfying in the extreme. What we are looking for is love based on real knowledge. To break the stranglehold of pornography, pursue love (not sex) with a real person.
