Passage: Romans 8:20,21*
20. For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own
choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope
21. that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to
decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God.
Questions
1. Are you frustrated with your feeble attempts to free yourself
from the web of porn?
2. Does your struggle seem like that of a fly in a spider web, only
moving you into further entanglement?
3. What does God think about all that?
Practical help
This is a hard, hard lesson. God actually wants us to be frustrated,
that is, if our frustration is caused by our own lack of progress in fighting against our
sin nature. It's amazing to think that the God of the universe, who created all things,
has something to hope for. Doesn't he have everything already? No, because he doesn't have
every heart turned toward him. His hope is that our inability to solve our problems on our
own will eventually lead us to lean totally, unconditionally, and without reservation, on
him.
If porn has you in its clutches, give up your struggle. You can't win on your own. In
fact, this verse suggests that you're in a place God wants you to be -- not that he's
happy with your current state, but that he is hoping against hope that you'll be driven to
despair and fall on your face before him. Once you've taken that plunge, you'll know real,
true freedom. If this sounds good to you, too good to be true, you can learn more by clicking here.
