Welcome to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand strong in the face of sexual temptation.

Passage: 1 Peter 5:8-9*

8. Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls about like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

9. But resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren who are in the world.

Questions

1. Why is it crucial for us to remain on the alert?

2. What kind of prey is especially vulnerable to the lion’s attack.

3. What are some elements of successful resistance?

Practical help

On the plains of Africa, lions are on constant watch for vulnerable animals to prey upon. They choose animals that are sick or alone or struggling in some way. They also lie ready to pounce on those that are not alert to their presence in the tall grass.

The Apostle Peter gives the warning for us to watch out for Satan at all times but especially when we are in similar situations. Feeling alone, weakened by temptation, cut off from other believers, so distracted by our own struggles that we forget to watch out for danger. That is when we are most vulnerable to the enemy’s attacks.

Successful resistance against sexual temptation consists of:

  1. Being on the alert to the reality of the danger
  2. Recognizing our own vulnerability
  3. Recognizing the enemy when tempted and then resisting him
  4. Seeking the support of other Christians
  5. Keeping our eyes on Jesus
Danger is all around and the enemy is looking for his opportunity to strike and devour. Stand strong in your faith by grace in Jesus.
