Title: A Strategy for Victory Over Porn------------------------------------- Date: 4/1/2002
Keywords: "prayer"
Welcome to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand strong in the face of sexual temptation.

For the next several days, the eXXit studies will be exploring the book of Galatians. Galatians has been called "The Magna Carta of Christianity" because the letter is all about freedom. Paul’s goal for the Christians who reads this letter is that they find freedom in Christ. May God use these studies to bring you freedom from the grip of porn and freedom to love and serve, all to the glory of God!

Passage: Galatians 1:1-5*

1. Paul, an apostle (not sent from men, nor through the agency of man, but through Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised Him from the dead)

2. and all the brethren who are with me, to the churches of Galatia:

3. Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ,

4. who gave Himself for our sins, that He might deliver us out of this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father,

5. to whom be the glory forevermore. Amen.

Question

1. To whom did Paul write the letter quoted above?

2. Given that verses 3-5 is a prayer, for what does he pray?

Practical help

First things first. Isn’t it fascinating that in a letter written with the specific purpose of bringing readers to freedom in Christ, Paul first prays? His content is crucial — but so is his strategy.

Prayers for grace and peace are prayers for your enjoyment of two of the greatest gifts God has to offer. You receive them, initially, when you place your trust in Jesus Christ for salvation (click here to find out how to become a Christian). And you continue to receive God’s grace and peace as you grow in the Christian life.

Paul’s prayer includes the purpose for which Jesus died on the cross ("gave Himself for our sins"). He died to deliver those who trust Him "out of this evil age." There is one primary and one secondary "point" to this prayer. Primarily, Jesus died to take you to Heaven when you die so that you and He can spend eternity together! Secondarily, though, Jesus died to deliver you from the evil of this age — right now!

Finally, Paul’s prayer focuses on God and His glory.

Want a great strategy to begin striking at the heart of your struggle with porn? Pray!

Pray with the grace and peace that God has given you at the forefront of your mind.

Pray with the knowledge that Jesus intends to deliver you from evil.

Pray with your focus fixed on the glory of God.

Tomorrow, we’ll look at one of the traps that the hater of your soul (Satan) uses to trip Christians up, as we continue to look at the letter to the Galatians.
