Welcome
to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand
strong in the face of sexual temptation.
For the first several days of
April 2001, the eXXit studies will zero in on the
experiences of the Old Testament prophet, Jonah. Hope you
enjoy and find these studies helpful as you seek to stand
strong in the face of sexual temptation.
Passage:
Jonah 1:17*
And the LORD appointed a
great fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was in the
stomach of the fish three days and three nights.
Questions
1. Where was Jonah
traveling when God sent a storm?
2. Where was Jonah traveling
when God sent the "great fish"?
Practical
help
In this one verse we see
the severity and the gentleness of God. Jonah was
attempting to flee from God. So, God sent a storm on
the sea to "get his attention." Unrepentant, Jonah
allowed himself to be thrown overboard rather than
destroy all aboard. The sea ceased from its raging as
soon as Jonah hit the water! Then, as Jonah was
sinking God sent deliverance in the form of a huge
fish (or a whale; the Hebrew word could mean
either).
What all eXXit readers need to
note is Gods willingness to make Jonahs
life miserable while he was running away and
Gods quick response of salvation (even if not a
terribly palatable one) when Jonah was
sinking.
There is no future in Tarshish
(Porn-land), only in the place of Gods choosing
(purity). Dont keep running away. God is willing
to bring all kinds of pressure to bear to prompt your
obedience. Storms can come in all shapes and sizes!
Yet know that Gods ultimate goal is your
salvation. When you cry out to Him, He will
deliver!
