Welcome
to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand
strong in the face of sexual temptation.
For the first several days of
April 2001, the eXXit studies will zero in on the
experiences of the Old Testament prophet, Jonah. Hope you
enjoy and find these studies helpful as you seek to stand
strong in the face of sexual temptation.
Passage:
Jonah 2:10-3:3*
10. Then the LORD
commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah up onto the
dry land.
1. Now the word of the LORD came
to Jonah the second time, saying,
2. "Arise, go to Nineveh the
great city and proclaim to it the proclamation which I
am going to tell you."
3. So Jonah arose and went to
Nineveh according to the word of the LORD. Now Nineveh
was an exceedingly great city, a three days' walk.
Questions
1. What did God tell Jonah
to do in the first chapter?
2. What did God tell Jonah to do
in the third chapter?
Practical
help
I wonder what went through
Jonahs mind as he walked from the shore of the
Mediterranean to Nineveh. Among his thoughts,
Ill bet was this one: "I would have been better
off doing what God commanded in the first place. All
Ive done has been to waste time and energy by
living in rebellion."
Jonahs eventual trip to
Nineveh illustrates that our every attempt to find
life in Tarshish (the place to which Jonah was
fleeing) is, at best, nothing but a monumental waste
of time.
Think back to your experiences
with porn. No matter how long you feed that lust, you
are still sensing the call of God to lead a
God-honoring, porn-free life, arent you? Every
day that you live controlled by the mouse is one more
day wasted with respect to fulfilling that vision
a vision that will not go away, because it is
Gods vision for you.
Let Jonahs poor example
serve as your guide. Stop wasting time!
