Welcome
to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand
strong in the face of sexual temptation.
Passage:
Philippians 4:8-9*
8. Finally, brethren,
whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is
right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever
is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if
anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on
these things.
9. The things you have learned
and received and heard and seen in me, practice these
things; and the God of peace shall be with you."
Question
In a word or two, how
would you sum up all the themes described in verse 8
above?
Practical
help
The Bible calls us to set
our minds on certain kinds of themes. Think through
these verses. Then, next to each theme below, write an
example of it:
Something
true:
Something
honorable:
Something
right:
Something
pure:
Something
lovely:
Something of
good repute:
Something
worthy of praise:
If we are to think on these
kinds of themes, it follows that we must not
dwell on certain other themes. Write an example of the
opposite next to each of the themes:
Something
true:
Something
honorable:
Something
right:
Something
pure:
Something
lovely:
Something of
good repute:
Something
worthy of praise:
How might thinking about
true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, reputable and
praiseworthy things help you to stand strong
when you are tempted to view pornographic images or
engage in sexually oriented conversations on the
Internet?
Something really good happens
when we fix our minds on life-giving truth. That
"something really good" is that our appetite for
lesser things dissipates.
Let your mind dwell on the good
stuff, and watch the grip of the bad stuff
weaken!
