Welcome
to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand
strong in the face of sexual temptation.
Today's 3-Minute Bible
Study takes us back to Philippians 4:8-9. Yesterday,
we paid attention to the importance of thinking about
God's pure truth as a means of standing strong against
impure things (like Internet pornography). Today, our
focus turns to the importance of
relationships with others in our
fight to stand strong. Here are the verses again:
Passage:
Philippians 4:8-9*
8. Finally, brethren,
whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is
right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever
is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if
anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on
these things.
9. The things you have learned
and received and heard and seen in me, practice these
things; and the God of peace shall be with you."
Question
Whom can you tell about
your porn struggle?
Practical
help
Notice that Paul assumed
that the Philippian Christians had observed his own
purity. They could learn from his example because they
knew how he lived.
If you are struggling with
Internet pornography and want to stop your involvement
with it, there are a number of resources to which you
can turn for help. Chief among them are the people God
has placed in your life.
The Philippians could look to
Paul's example and mimic him. What about you? Who are
the people you look up to? Who are the people you
admire and respect? Write their names in the space
below?
Are you close enough to them to
talk with them? Are you willing to be open with them
about an area of temptation in your life
(pornography)? If you share your struggle with them,
they may very well share a personal struggle they are
having with you, because God intends that we help each
other. Are you willing to let another person "in" on
your struggle? Will you ask for that person's help in
your desire to stand strong against involvement with
porn? If "yes," write the name of the person
you will approach in the space below and the date and
time when you make contact.
God wants you and me to stand
strong against sexual impurity. This would include the
damaging, sexually explicit material on the Internet.
One of the ways He equips us to do that is by
providing us with friends who will talk with us, pray
with us, link arms and walk with us through
temptation. Be willing to find that friend who will be
a ally to help you stand strong.
