Welcome to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand strong in the face of sexual temptation.

Passage: Romans 6:18-19*

18. You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.

19. I put this in human terms because you are weak in your natural selves. Just as you used to offer the parts of your body in slavery to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer them in slavery to righteousness leading to holiness.

Questions

1. Although this passage is addressed to believers who are no longer slaves to sin, what do they still need to remember about themselves?

2. Did the downward spiral into impurity and increasing wickedness begin with active or passive behavior?

3. While God has declared these believers righteous and holy because of their faith in Christ, what do they need to do to begin living in that righteousness? Does this sound active or passive?

Practical help

Because you are weak in your natural self, it is all  too easy to believe that falling back into the trap of internet porn just happens. Don't kid yourself. Spend some time thinking back over what you did just before your last few slip ups. What seemingly small actions did you take, what subtle arrangements did you make, what rationalizations were in your mind just  before you offered the parts of your body to impurity? Be brutally honest with yourself here and be as specific as possible. Then make a commitment to be on the alert for those same actions, arrangements and thoughts. Sin doesn't just  happen any more than righteous behavior does.

Make advance plans for those moments when you catch yourself in time to make an abrupt about-face. How will you offer your body to righteousness instead of to impurity? What will you do? Where will you go? Who will you talk to? Ask God to give you some creative and wise ideas.
