Welcome to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand strong in the face of sexual temptation.

The following is one of 42 studies on the "armor of God" as it relates to resisting Web porn. Some of the studies will examine Ephesians chapter six, which is famous for the armor theme. Some of the other studies, however, will examine how the armor pieces are discussed elsewhere in Scripture. All 42 studies are listed in the three-minute study index for the dates April 1 through May 12, 1999. Feel free to study and/or download the entire set. We welcome your feedback to this thematic approach in the three-minute studies.

Passage: Genesis 6:5,9*

5. Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

9. These are the records of the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his time; Noah walked with God.

Questions

1. In what ways did Noah differ from his contemporaries?

2. My word processor’s Thesaurus lists the following as near synonyms for "righteous": virtuous, devout, noble, honest, ethical, moral. Do you have a "Noah" friend who exemplifies such character?

3. What pictures come to your mind when you envision someone "walking with God"?

Practical help

We are not going to suggest that Internet porn was a problem for the men of Noah’s day! However, the word "wickedness" (v. 5) does hint at a variety of destructive behaviors - including sexual ones.

God intends for us to see the great contrast between Noah’s contemporaries and Noah himself. The people who lived in Noah’s day indulged in wicked behavior; Noah did not and he is to be commended for that. But how did he manage to live a righteous life while surrounded by wickedness? The end of verse 9 tells us: Noah walked with God.

Noah walked with God. The men of Noah’s day were "walking with" something, too - but it wasn't God. And whenever we don’t walk with God the result is a lifestyle that is not righteous. As the term is used throughout Scripture, "walking with God" involves worshiping Him and trusting Him. The result of walking through life with God is an eventual shedding of habits that destroy. Want to walk away from Internet porn? Take God’s hand and walk with Him.
