Welcome to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand strong in the face of sexual temptation.

The following is one of 42 studies on the "armor of God" as it relates to resisting Web porn. Some of the studies will examine Ephesians chapter six, which is famous for the armor theme. Some of the other studies, however, will examine how the armor pieces are discussed elsewhere in Scripture. All 42 studies are listed in the three-minute study index for the dates April 1 through May 12, 1999. Feel free to study and/or download the entire set. We welcome your feedback to this thematic approach in the three-minute studies.

Passage: Romans 1:17*

For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: "The righteous will live by faith."

Questions

1. What is the gospel or "good news"?

2. As the title of the study asks, "Whose righteousness is it?"

3. How do we obtain righteousness?

Practical help

"Righteousness" is living out the truth. The greatest truth is from God and contained in the simple gospel message: Jesus Christ died in your place so you could live with Him. Although it is important that living with Jesus includes Heaven, it does not exclude living with Him here and now. Jesus was completely righteous and you can, by faith, choose to live the same way. The power over pornography is not within you, but the choice to give in or resist is. You obtain the power by faith (an act of your will).

Living by faith means establishing in your heart first and foremost that God exists and that He has a plan for your life. Seek Him first and order the rest of your life accordingly.

"But," you say, "how can I trust something I don't understand?" If you are not a pilot, but fly on airplanes; drive a car, but don't know how an engine works; or use computers without understanding computer languages or microprocessor technology, then you operate by faith on a daily basis.

So by faith, put on the breastplate of righteousness, and choose healthy activities over those that will weaken your character. God has designed this particular breastplate to protect your heart like nothing else can.
