Passage: Psalm 1:1*

How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,
Nor stand in the path of sinners,
Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!

Questions

1. What does being blessed by God really look like? Could it include living a life of struggle that turns out well in the end?

2. If given the choice of being blessed by God or blessed by men, which do I really want?

3. Could it be, if deep in my heart, I am drawn to the affirmation of men and the "good" things they can bestow on me over a blessing by God, that it reflects I have listened more to ungodly counselors than godly ones?

4. Could it be, if my heart is really turned more toward men’s approval over God’s, that I have been a poor friend and counselor to others?

Practical help

Wickedness is not just overt acts. It can also be the failure to stand for what is right and good as well. Truly, the world turns on the actions of a few committed believers above the vacillations of the reactive masses. Which camp are you in?

Before I can learn righteousness, I must seek it. And as I seek it, I must turn away from all impostors (like pornography).

So what are some good questions you might ask a friend you are considering as a possible soul-mate or counselor? May I suggest, "Tell me ____________, where do you find life? What turns you on?" If a life with God is not in the answer somewhere, keep looking.
