10:13*
No temptation has seized
you except what is common to man. And God is faithful;
he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can
bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a
way out so that you can stand up under it.
Question
How do you feel when
temptation you've resisted in the past continues to
attack you?
Practical
help
In the verse above, God
says he'll keep temptation from overpowering us, but
he doesn't say he'll make it go away.
One result of temptation
sticking around is that we have to continue depending
on God to resist it. Else we might forget his role in
our deliverance from the temptation. Worse, we might
forget to call on him the next time the same
temptation — or a different one — comes
knocking.
But the immediate benefit for us
porn strugglers is that, given the verse above, we'll
be able to stand up under the temptation. We don't
have to give in to it. We don't have to hang our heads
in shame. We don't have to be beaten down.
So let's rejoice that God helps
us stand strong against temptation, but, if it remains
in our paths, let's use it as a reminder that God will
let us stand up to it again and again.
