Passage: Psalm 1:1-3*

1. How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,
Nor stand in the path of sinners,
Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!

2. But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
And in His law he meditates day and night.

3. And he will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water,
Which yields its fruit in its season,
And its leaf does not wither;
And in whatever he does, he prospers.

Questions

1. When was the last time you wished you were a tree?

2. Is becoming like a tree on your list of life-time ambitions?

Practical help

I think I know your answers to the questions above. We know trees are alive, but just barely, right? They get planted and usually that’s about the extent of their life’s journey.

But what if your spiritual life was like a tree? What if you stood strong in all sorts of weather because you were tapped into a wonderful water source? What if your ability to love others just bubbled up from within you? Have you ever noticed trees don’t grunt or grown to produce fruit? Orchards are pretty quiet places. Yet you and I think the abundant life has to do with our own efforts more than the soil we are planted in.

Instead of attempting to give yourself life through corrupting practices like Internet porn, stop and look at a few trees. Ask God to quiet your heart and thirst for Him instead.
