Passage: Mark 15:24*

And they crucified Him, and divided up His garments among themselves, casting lots for them, [to decide] what each should take.

Questions

1. What is your ultimate purpose in life?

2. What does pornography have to do with your ultimate purpose? Could it be holding your back?

3. What does your ultimate direction in life have to do with the One crucified in this passage? (I hope you aren’t like the soldiers and more interested in the garments than in Christ Himself).

Practical help

The verse is so matter-of-fact: “And they crucified Him….” Also notice that most of the sentence has to do with what the soldiers did after nailing Jesus to the cross and suspending him between heaven and earth. There is a chilling coldness in the brutal reality of what was done. It's the same kind of coldness of heart that it takes to exterminate people in a gas chamber or torture them in underground prisons for years. Where do such cold brutal people come from?

Answer: The human race.

Although some would like to blame a particular group (usually not themselves), the fact of the matter is this deviancy resides in each one of us. It’s the same self-centered, self-preserving, self-aggrandizing impulse that causes you and me to seek pleasure without thinking about the cost or harm to others (and ourselves). Next time you have the impulse to surf the Net for porn, look up and see Jesus crucified. I pray this will jolt you back into reality and what is really at stake in your actions.
