Welcome to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand strong in the face of sexual temptation.

Passage: Psalm 1:1-6*

1. How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,
Nor stand in the path of sinners,
Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!

2. But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
And in His law he meditates day and night.

3. And he will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water,
Which yields its fruit in its season,
And its leaf does not wither;
And in whatever he does, he prospers.

4. The wicked are not so,
But they are like chaff which the wind drives away.

5. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
Nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

6. For the Lord knows the way of the righteous,
But the way of the wicked will perish.

Questions

1. Have you planned your life, or are you making it up as you go along?

2. What would you want your family, friends and associates to say about you at your funeral?

Practical help

Here we come to the end of the first Psalm in the Bible. It contains only 6 verses. Why is it first? Allow me to speculate a little. I believe this Psalm is first to prepare us for the rest of the Psalms. It sets before us a choice of attitude. Will we look at the things of God in a trusting way, or an untrusting way? Will we seek to "delight" in the words of Scripture even when they are difficult and possibly life-style constricting?

Pornography snares people. You probably did not buy your first computer to see smut. The Internet opened up the possibility of connecting us to more people and information and so we went along with "progress". All of a sudden one day you get an e-mail message or you stumble on a web site or you hear from others about what’s out there, and you go clicking… What began as curiosity has resulted in an addiction. You have been stimulated to the point that life without it looks flat and boring – sort of like living the life of a tree.

This Psalm says, plan ahead in order not to be caught up. It says that God will bless the journey of a man or woman who chooses Him. Their lives will stand for something important and they will be used as exhibits of righteousness in God’s court room where He stands accused by Satan as being unfair, unkind, unjust (all the things Satan actually is).

You have the advantage of knowing the end of the story. So live with this end in mind. Remember that God knows your way – where you have been, where you are this moment, and where you are going. And He has told you that your choice for Him will lead you down exciting paths that end in victory. He has also revealed to you that the wicked will perish. All heaven is standing by to hear you answer to God’s invitation.
