Passage: Mark 15:24-26*

24. And they crucified Him, and divided up His garments among themselves, casting lots for them, [to decide] what each should take.

25. And it was the third hour when they crucified Him.

26. And the inscription of the charge against Him read, "THE KING OF THE JEWS."

Question

So you know Jesus was crucified on the third hour of a particular Friday over two thousand years ago. When in the course of time did His sacrifice pierce your life?

Practical help

Without telling us very much about the details of the crucifixion, the writer of the passage above wants to make sure that he is reporting the event accurately. In other words, the descriptions of most of the sights, sounds and smells are not mentioned, but the time of the event is. It happened. It was a recorded event and no one in authority later came back to dispute that it occurred.

What is the meaning of the crucifixion of Christ? To answer this completely, I recommend you read all the books and letters (epistles) that follow the four gospels in the New Testament. I don’t believe a page will go by without discussing it’s relevance to life in some regard.

Was Jesus the King of the Jews? In other words, was Jesus the Messiah — the One prophesied to come and rescue His people? I believe an intellectually honest evaluation of the facts will show that He indeed was the Messiah. But more than this, Jesus is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. One day, as Paul stated in Philippians 2:10, “at the name of Jesus, every knee should bow.…” This includes all in heaven, on the earth and even under the earth. I urge you to make sure you have your answer ready to the question, Who is Jesus? because it is central to your life today and your future here and for eternity. In a hundred years, your sexual issues will be irrelevant, but your relationship with Jesus — good or bad — will still be important beyond words.
