The
following is one of 42 studies on the "armor of God" as it relates to resisting
Web porn. Some of the studies will examine Ephesians chapter six, which is famous for the
armor theme. Some of the other studies, however, will examine how the armor pieces are
discussed elsewhere in Scripture. All 42 studies are listed in the three-minute
study index for the dates April 1 through May 12, 1999. Feel free to study and/or
download the entire set. We welcome your feedback
to this thematic approach in the three-minute studies.
Passage: Psalm
34:11-14*
11. Come, you children, listen to me; I will teach
you the fear of the LORD.
12. Who is the man who desires life, And loves
length of days that he may see good?
13. Keep your tongue from evil, And your lips from
speaking deceit.
14. Depart from evil, and do good; Seek peace, and
pursue it.
Questions
1. What has to be taught and therefore must not come naturally
(verse 11)?
2. Is long life guaranteed for those who fear the Lord (verse 12)?
3. How might controlling what we say and telling the truth enable us
to live a long life?
4. What is the difference between seeking peace and pursuing peace?
Practical help
Internet pornography is a portal into seeing a world of evil and
deceit. Where it originates, it is often connected to drug abuse, child abuse, and
organized crime. In creating this product, thousands of women and children are forced to
perform sexual acts that are emotionally, spiritually and often physically harmful. Some
trapped in this evil world will die violently. When we pursue sexual gratification without
concern for those who appear on our computer screens, it is because our respect for --
fear of -- God and the people He created and died for has been deadened.
Pornography is also destructive to our homes because it destroys the
innocence of children. Children who see explicit graphic images in secret may grow up to
have sexual problems. If the pornography is being used by the man in the family, it
results in a break of trust that is damaging and potentially irreparable. As men become
addicted to harder and harder porn, women and children are at greater and greater risk of
being abused.
Departing from evil is placing your computer in a public area of
your home and placing restrictions on its access for yourself and others. Peaceful lives
will be found in homes where men fear the Lord and resist evil influences.
