Question How can we apply the message of this verse to pornography?   Practical help The stunning revelation launched a top-rated TV series into a slow decline. After the second season of "Survivor," the show's producer admitted that his program recreated some sequences to heighten the drama. "Reality" TV wasn't so real after all. The same goes for pornography. Smut serves up our darkest fantasies as real. Though the images make us feel alive, we can't see the cameras, lights, makeup artists or directors yelling "Cut!" This sleight of hand keeps us from recognizing porn for what it is: a farce of passion served up for an audience of fools. But not unredeemable fools. As Proverbs 14:13 says, a kernel of joy lies buried in grief. Perhaps it's the stab of conscience we feel in the act of viewing smut. If the heart can ache in laughter, the soul can cry in lust.
