Passage:
John 4:31-34*
31. Meanwhile his
disciples urged him, "Rabbi, eat something."
32. But he said to them, "I have
food to eat that you know nothing about."
33. Then his disciples said to
each other, "Could someone have brought him food?"
34. "My food," said Jesus, "is
to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his
work.
Question
When's the last time you
really thought about what you hunger for?
Practical
help
Feeder is one of those
funny words. It can mean both the one who gets and the
one who gives. In today's passage Jesus is conveying a
profound effect of being in a right relationship with
God: You are spiritually nourished by purposing to
seek and do God's will for your life!
We could probably wax eloquent
on the philosophical implications of this truth, but
for now, why not just wax practical. Temptations have
their heyday in our minds when we sit around in
self-absorbed pity wondering why our lives aren't as
exciting as we think they should be. The apparent
solution for the porn struggler is to go feed at that
titillating Web site. The irony is that the more you
feed on that diet the more you starve.
Could be it's time to try a new
feeding frenzy. Start feeding yourself God's word, and
you'll soon realize he's got exciting plans for you.
Before you know it, you'll be spending that pity-party
time feeding others by what God is compelling you to
do. Taste it!
