We trudge through yards laid bare by winter, scattering nutrients and grass seed in every direction. Though conditions look bleak — especially in that spot by the fence — we keep at it. That's because we know the ritual works. Eventually, the hard work will pay off in a greener lawn. At least greener than when we started. The same principle describes how God's word works in the world. He flings messages out indiscriminately. Some seeds fall on us, accomplishing the "purpose for which [he] sent it." As believers who struggle with Web porn, surely this broadcast infuses us with willpower — if we expose ourselves to the Word. Like our barren yards in spring, we must undergo the ritual of treatment. Start each morning with a passage of Scripture.
