Passage: Galatians 5:24-25*

24. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires.

25. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.

Questions

1. Why do you think you were able to accept Jesus as your personal savior? (If you haven't, click here to read about some good news.)

2. Does God expect you to live the rest of your life making decisions without his valuable input?

Practical help

In the previous study we talked about how important it is to remember that when you place your faith in Jesus' atoning sacrifice your old sinful nature is crucified with him on the cross.

The only way anyone is able to accept this great truth is by the Holy Spirit's leading — another amazing gift from your loving God.

Today let's focus on verse 25. Not only does the Holy Spirit enable you to accept the great gift of eternal life, but he sticks around to help you pick every next step in your walk of life. Notice, though, that he doesn't take the steps for you. He's a guide and a helper, not a commandant (see John 14:16-17). Paul exhorts you to use a little ASL (if we create an acronym, maybe we'll remember it) — Applied Spiritual Logic. He makes a simple, logical point: Since the Holy Spirit guided you to accept eternal life, wouldn't it be wise to follow his guidance in other areas of your life?

If you look for his steps, you can trust that he'll lead you away from that porn site. All you have to do is keep in step.
