Welcome to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand strong in the face of sexual temptation.

Passage: Lamentations 3:24*

I say to myself, "The LORD is my portion; therefore I will wait for him."

Questions

1. How can you tell if you're relying on God alone?

2. What can you do if you're not?

Practical help

If the Alcoholics Anonymous movement does nothing else, it reveals one ugly truth: Americans worship many things besides God. Our laundry list of addictions — drink, food, and yes, Web porn — shows us how far we fall short of true dependency on God.

The writer of Lamentations knows all about trusting God. The verse above sums up his attitude: "The LORD is my portion; therefore I will wait for him." If only we could say the same thing when succumbing to Web porn.

The good news is that "could" can be "can." God tells us in no uncertain terms that he will help us battle our addictions. We can cooperate with him by confessing our misplaced affections and asking for his help. Though seldom used, the discipline of fasting can also remind us that we can control our physical desires. After all, if we can curb our desire for food, we can also avoid smut sites.

Why settle for 'if onlys'?
