Welcome
to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand strong in the face of sexual
temptation.
Passage: Luke 16:13*
No servant can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and
love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve
both God and Money.
Question
How can this verse apply to the idolatry of pornography?
Practical help
Though Jesus specifically mentions money in this passage, set your
theological parameters aside and tune into the basic message: The human heart cannot
accommodate dual deities. It's either God or money. Or God or power. Or God or porn.
Depending on how long you've let your sex idol rule, unseating it
may come with great ease ("I'm not going to look at that smut again"), great
difficulty ("I can't imagine resisting the temptation") or somewhere in between.
Wherever you find yourself, swallow hard and bear Jesus' words in mind. You can't serve a
cafeteria-plan Ultimate Authority.
Once you decide to go with God -- you did decide that, right? -- the
path away from idolatry follows. For more resources, check out other eXXit resources on
