Welcome to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand
strong in the face of sexual temptation.
The following is one of 42 studies
on the "armor of God" as it relates to resisting Web porn. Some of the studies
will examine Ephesians chapter six, which is famous for the armor theme. Some of the other
studies, however, will examine how the armor pieces are discussed elsewhere in Scripture.
All 42 studies are listed in the three-minute study index
for the dates April 1 through May 12, 1999. Feel free to study and/or download the entire
set. We welcome your feedback to this thematic
approach in the three-minute studies.
Passage: Hebrews 2:1-3*
1. We must pay more
careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.
2. For if the message spoken by angels was binding,
and every violation and disobedience received its just punishment,
3. how shall we escape if we ignore such a great
salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by
those who heard him.
Questions
1. What is it that we must pay closer attention to?
2. What chance is there of escaping consequences for the things we
do if we ignore what we've heard? (verse 3)
Practical help
How many race car drivers venture on to the track or football
players head to the field or high-rise construction workers start their work without
their helmets? Not many. If there's any risk that something could mess with your head you
can bet the wise man will wear his helmet.
There are many things in this world that want to mess with your head
and the Web smut industry is a prime example. It would like to cloud your thinking saying
"no victims here" when in truth the viewers and the actors are victims.
Today's passage is a warning about carelessness. God has given you a
message that saves your life, in fact, it gives you a new life. Its the message of salvation.
(If you haven't heard this message, click here.) But, if
you ignore this message (or carelessly forget about) it you can drift away from what God
purposes to do in your life.
God wants you to stand strong against the things in this world that
mess with your head. He gives you the free gift of salvation and the apostle Paul (see note) exhorts you to wear it like a helmet.
Don't forget you have this helmet and when you start each day, remember to put it
on!
