Welcome to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand
strong in the face of sexual temptation.
The following is one of 42 studies
on the "armor of God" as it relates to resisting Web porn. Some of the studies
will examine Ephesians chapter six, which is famous for the armor theme. Some of the other
studies, however, will examine how the armor pieces are discussed elsewhere in Scripture.
All 42 studies are listed in the three-minute study index
for the dates April 1 through May 12, 1999. Feel free to study and/or download the entire
set. We welcome your feedback to this thematic
approach in the three-minute studies.
Passage: 1 John 5:10-13*
10. The one who believes in the Son of God has
the testimony in himself; the one who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he
has not believed in the testimony that God has given concerning His Son.
11. And the testimony is this, that God has given us
eternal life [salvation], and this life is in His Son.
12. He who has the Son has the life [salvation]; he
who does not have the Son of God does not have the life.
13. These things I have written to you who believe
in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know [the helmet you can wear] that you
have eternal life.
[Comments in brackets for clarification.]
Questions
1. Can you know you have salvation?
2. What must you believe according to these verses?
3. When you do not believe God has saved you, what are you calling
God?
Practical help
Do you get discouraged about your life and your weaknesses? Do you
sometimes feel that God could never love you because of the things you have done or are
doing?
The good news is that Gods salvation and love for you are not
dependent on your actions. They are based on His character, His righteousness and His
love.
God is telling us to accept His free gift and allow Him to fill us
with Himself and His love. When this happens, changes begin to take place. We are drawn
through appreciation for what He has done to begin to really desire to please Him. This
then is the motivation for dumping pornography and every other destructive passion.
Stop trying to conquer your problems by yourself. Put on the helmet
of salvation and begin to stand strong in the knowledge of what He has done for you, is
doing for you and will continue to do for you.
