Welcome to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand strong in the face of sexual temptation.

Passages: Genesis 13:21, 14:20*

13:21 — And the Lord was going before them in a pillar of cloud by day to lead them on the way, and in a pillar of fire by night to give them light, that they might travel by day and by night.

14:20 — So it came between the camp of Egypt and the camp of Israel; and there was the cloud along with the darkness, yet it gave light at night. Thus the one did not come near the other all night.

Questions

1. What was the dual function of the pillar of fire for the Israelites?

2. What tool does God grant believers today with the same dual function?

Practical help

The pillar of cloud and fire guided the Israelites in the wilderness and protected them from the Egyptians.

Today, God provides a tool that will as reliably guide and protect Christians as the pillar did for forty years of wilderness wanderings: The Bible.

Sound simplistic? It’s not! Simple, yes — but not simplistic.

Are you looking for moral guidance as to how to conduct yourself in tempting situations? You can find no better "light" than the Bible.

Are you looking for protection against the schemes of the Prince of Darkness (Satan)? The Bible will help you see how to stand firm against his temptations. It will be a lamp to your path when you are walking through the darkness of temptation.

The Bible is not to be used as a magic charm (as in "a chapter a day keeps the devil away"), but as a tool in the hands of a skilled craftsman who knows what part of the Bible to apply to his situation at a given moment. If you would be victorious over your temptation to view porn, learn to lean on the guidance and protection offered by the Bible.
