Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing the soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Questions 1. As the author of Hebrews points out, the word of God is no dead document. It provides counsel on modern issues, including (gasp) Web porn. Though you won ’t find “pornography” in your concordance, you will get advice from Scripture about overcoming such problems. Start with Psalm 1:2-3: But [the righteous man’s] delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers. Then move on to other passages (Proverbs is especially helpful). The word counsels, but it also cuts. Don’t be surprised if at times you close the Bible feeling spiritually dismembered. Still, these are the wounds of a friend -- the Spirit. Opening the Bible gives Him greater access to your life.
