Practical help

We have all seen the Hollywood mockeries of drunken men and women -- usually sort of funny, if a little pathetic. In real life, it is mostly pathetic, and not very funny when a person is controlled by alcohol. Untold destruction is caused by drunk driving and drunkenness at home.

There are all kinds of possibilities for being "filled." Scripture lists people who are filled with jealousy (Acts 5:17), rage (Acts 19:28), unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil, envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice (Romans 1:29). Being filled with these "controlling substances" is every bit as destructive as alcohol!

Likewise, many men and women are controlled by what may seem like insatiable urges to view porn. It is not a stretch to say that they are "filled" with porn, just as a drunk is filled with wine (the idea is control). And such a filling is destructive to the soul.

But, there is an alternative filling for the Christian. You can be filled with the Holy Spirit! His controlling influence is completely constructive. He brings peace and love and joy and power.

You can experience the controlling/filling of the Spirit on a day-in and day-out basis as you submit yourself to Scripture, trust God, and ask Him to fill you. The choice is yours -- will you be filled with the life-transforming power of the Holy Spirit or with soul-destroying porn?
