Welcome to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand strong in the face of sexual temptation.

The following is one of 42 studies on the "armor of God" as it relates to resisting Web porn. Some of the studies will examine Ephesians chapter six, which is famous for the armor theme. Some of the other studies, however, will examine how the armor pieces are discussed elsewhere in Scripture. All 42 studies are listed in the three-minute study index for the dates April 1 through May 12, 1999. Feel free to study and/or download the entire set. We welcome your feedback to this thematic approach in the three-minute studies.

Passage: 2 Timothy 2:8-9*

8. Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, descendant of David, according to my gospel,

9. for which I suffer hardship even to imprisonment as a criminal; but the word of God [emphasis added] is not imprisoned.

Questions

1. When people are convicted of crimes and placed behind bars, they lose certain freedoms. What freedoms do they lose? What restrictions do they experience while they are in prison?

2. In the verses above, the apostle Paul tells us that he was imprisoned. However, he tells us that the word of God (in prison with him) was not imprisoned! In what sense was the word of God not imprisoned?

3. What does the fact that the word of God cannot be imprisoned tell us about its character?

Practical help

Practical help: The word of God is powerful. It cannot be imprisoned. You cannot sheath the word of God. No matter the setting in which it is placed, it is still the "unshacklable" word of God. We can’t put handcuffs on the word of God. There is no way to take away the word of God’s freedom and ability to perform its work.

There are men and women who can testify that at moments of great temptation to sin, they have remembered the word of God and been delivered. They stood tall and didn’t fall. This can be your testimony, too.

When you are tempted to tune in to pornography’s frequency, let fly with the word of God. Turn to your Bible. There is power in what God has said to resist temptation. Learn it, love it, live it — and let it loose!
