Passage: 2 Corinthians 3:12-18*
12. Having therefore such a hope, we use great boldness in our speech
13. and are not as Moses, who used to put a veil over his face that the sons of Israel might not look intently at the end of what was fading away.
14. But their minds were hardened; for until this very day at the reading of the old covenant the same veil remains unlifted, because it is removed in Christ.
15. But to this day whenever Moses is read, a veil lies over their heart;
16. but whenever a man turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.
17. Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
18. But we all, with unveiled face beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.
Questions
1. According to the verses above, for what reason did Moses put a veil over his face after he met with God?
2. With respect to the wearing of "veils," what is to characterize those who have turned to the Lord?
Practical help
The apostle Paul lets us know that Moses was not only protecting the people of Israel from seeing the glory of God when he put a veil over his face. He was also protecting himself from the embarrassment of allowing the people to see that the glory of God that transferred to his face from Mt. Sinai faded. That is the nature of Old Covenant glory — it fades.
By contrast, the glory of the New Covenant Jesus has ushered in grows BECAUSE we are beholding the Lord with unveiled faces. In Jesus, the veils come off. In Jesus, we have nothing to prove, nothing to defend and nothing to hide. Change occurs when we rip off the veil of pretending and allow God to shine His transforming light on us.
Struggling with porn? Want to change? Then, stop hiding behind a veil that says, "I’m doing great!" Stop pretending to yourself, to others, and even to God that you have everything under control. The key to transformation is to take off the veil. Stop faking it, get real, confess your sins, and enjoy the adventure of a life-changing freedom from porn.
