Welcome
to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand
strong in the face of sexual temptation.
This
study is part of a short series on blessedness vs.
cheap thrills.
Passage:
Psalm 1:1-6*
1. Blessed is the man
who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked
or stand in the way of sinners
or sit in the seat of mockers.
2. But his delight is in the law
of the LORD,
and on his law he meditates day and night.
3. He is like a tree planted by
streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither.
Whatever he does prospers.
4. Not so the wicked!
They are like chaff
that the wind blows away.
5. Therefore the wicked will not
stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
6. For the LORD watches over the
way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.
Question
Who/what are "mockers"
(see verse 1 above)?
Practical
help
"Mockers" are folks who
(1) treat other people with ridicule or contempt
and/or (2) mimic them "in sport or derision."**
Any mocking going on in
porn?
Does smut scorn God's design for
sex? Does it ridicule moral values your conscience
knows are true and right? Does it treat human beings
like animals?
Back to the sweeping formula in
verse 1 above (see
previous study).
Namely imitating the wicked, sinners and, as we see
today, mockers does not make for blessedness
(happiness).
Smut may bring a momentary curl
to your face, only later to smash you with wave upon
wave of guilt and shame.
In verses 2-3, we see what
produces long-lasting satisfaction, which,
pathetically, porn can only parody, mocker that it
is.
Tune in tomorrow as we take up
these verses.
