Welcome to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand strong in the face of sexual temptation.

The following is one of 42 studies on the "armor of God" as it relates to resisting Web porn. Some of the studies will examine Ephesians chapter six, which is famous for the armor theme. Some of the other studies, however, will examine how the armor pieces are discussed elsewhere in Scripture. All 42 studies are listed in the three-minute study index for the dates April 1 through May 12, 1999. Feel free to study and/or download the entire set. We welcome your feedback to this thematic approach in the three-minute studies.

Passage: 1 Thessalonians 5:25*

"Brethren, pray for us"

Questions

1. Do you find it easy to ask others for help with a task? Many people find it hard to ask for help. Why might someone not ask for help when they are having difficulty accomplishing something?

2. If you see someone having difficulty with something, and you have the resources (skill-wise, energy-wise, strength-wise, etc....), are you sometimes drawn to help them? What is it about helping that you enjoy the most? Would you feel a little hurt if a friend knew you were available to help, but didn’t ask you?

3. What do you learn about the apostle Paul by hearing him ask for help in the verse above?

4. What do you learn about Paul by looking at the kind of help he requests?

Practical help

Many men and women struggle with Internet pornography. That is, they view it — and wish they didn’t. Porn is like a spider’s web. It entangles. It poisons. They need to stop clicking on the images and to cease visiting the chat rooms where sex is the topic of the day. But, they are stuck. They need help.

Maybe I have just described you and your situation. Perhaps you want to live a porn-free life. You probably need help because kicking the porn habit is a tough assignment. When the apostle Paul faced tough challenges, he wasn’t shy about asking for help. He enlisted friends to come to his rescue. He asked for help. He asked friends to pray for him.

You can do the same — and you can ask for the same kind of help Paul requested. Why not ask a fellow Christian to pray for you? (If you aren’t a Christian and want to find out how to come to know Christ, click here.)

Paul found that the prayers of others on his behalf were powerful tools in God’s hands. Many men have discovered the same thing with respect to porn. Go ahead. Take the first step toward recovery and freedom. Ask for help. Ask for prayer.
