Passage: Proverbs 9:1-6*

1. Wisdom has built her house; she has hewn out its seven pillars.

2. She has prepared her meat and mixed her wine; she has also set her table.

3. She has sent out her maids, and she calls from the highest point of the city.

4. "Let all who are simple come in here!" she says to those who lack judgment.

5. "Come, eat my food and drink the wine I have mixed.

6. Leave your simple ways and you will live; walk in the way of understanding.

Question

What does it mean to lack judgment (see verse 4 above)?

Practical help

When wisdom invites us sinners ("all who are simple...and lack judgment") over to her place, we're not told to stay out on the porch like country bumpkins. We're invited to come on in.

We're trusted to be with the respectable people in the house. In fact, this inclusion gives us respectability: We're wisdom's invited guests (as opposed to party crashers).

This is good news for us porn strugglers who think we've lost all respectability. There is a place where we're still welcome, and, as we shall see in the next study, treated to the finest eats.

So if you think you're a moral untouchable, think again. Dress up. Look up. The Bible's great books of wisdom have wonderful things in store for you.
