Welcome to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand strong in the face of sexual temptation.

This study is part of a short series on blessedness vs. cheap thrills.

Passage: Psalm 1:1-6*

1. Blessed is the man
who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked
or stand in the way of sinners
or sit in the seat of mockers.

2. But his delight is in the law of the LORD,
and on his law he meditates day and night.

3. He is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither.
Whatever he does prospers.

4. Not so the wicked!
They are like chaff
that the wind blows away.

5. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

6. For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.

Question

What does a tree planted by streams of water look like (see verse 3 above)?

Practical help

Want to be happy — "blessed," as verse 1 above puts it?

Verse 2 shows the way: meditating on God's law (the Scriptures).

In yesterday's study, we briefly covered three steps for meditating on the Bible: memorizing a passage, visualizing it, then personalizing it. We concluded the study by challenging you to take the first step by memorizing verse 3 above.

Now for the second step — visualizing the verse. What comes to mind when you think about a tree planted by streams of water? Is the tree thin or fat, brown or green, barren or fruitful? Easy answers. The tree is gorgeous, alive, leafy, full of fruit at the appropriate time.

What is the opposite of this image? If you're a porn user, the answer is in your mirror.

If you don't like the image of hopelessness in the mirror, wishing instead you were the vigorous, healthy tree in verse 3, know this: Hope is yours. You can become that tree.

Tune in to tomorrow's study to explore how to personalize the glory of the tree to your life.
