Passage: Proverbs 9:1-6*

1. Wisdom has built her house; she has hewn out its seven pillars.

2. She has prepared her meat and mixed her wine; she has also set her table.

3. She has sent out her maids, and she calls from the highest point of the city.

4. "Let all who are simple come in here!" she says to those who lack judgment.

5. "Come, eat my food and drink the wine I have mixed.

6. Leave your simple ways and you will live; walk in the way of understanding.

Question

How is wisdom, even metaphorically, edible (see verse 5 above)?

Practical help

As we've pointed out before in this short series on Proverbs 9, biblical wisdom is not simply a mental power. There is always a corresponding physical dimension that involves action. So it's no surprise that verse 5 above refers to eating and drinking: Wisdom is to be consumed, not just contemplated.

When it comes to resisting porn, what physical steps can we sinners take not only to spit out smut but eat and drink up wisdom?

Why not plan some physical strategies to employ before, during and after temptation: Contact a friend by phone or e-mail, jog in the park, work a crossword puzzle — anything that makes for mental and physical resistance.
