Passage: Proverbs 9:1-6*

1. Wisdom has built her house; she has hewn out its seven pillars.

2. She has prepared her meat and mixed her wine; she has also set her table.

3. She has sent out her maids, and she calls from the highest point of the city.

4. "Let all who are simple come in here!" she says to those who lack judgment.

5. "Come, eat my food and drink the wine I have mixed.

6. Leave your simple ways and you will live; walk in the way of understanding.

Question

What's the difference between "simple ways" and "the way of understanding" (see verse 6 above)?

Practical help

Wisdom's challenge to fools — "all who are simple" and "those who lack judgment" (verse 4 above) — is this:
Stop thinking and acting stupid; think and act smart instead (verse 6).

If you heed the challenge, expect this result:

You will live.

The thought from this line is that you won't just go through the motions of life but that you'll be satisfied with your existence. You won't need to spike it up by indulging in foolish thrills like porn.

Wisdom's promise of a satisfying life should scratch just where many porn strugglers itch: They aren't content with life as they know it and turn to porn for excitement.

Ironically, porn leaves its customers and victims feeling only emptier — and used.

So, fellow sinners, focus on what you want and need — a satisfying life. Then take appropriate steps toward that goal. Verse 6 tells you just what those steps are.
