Intro: In each of these studies (May 15-21), we will be looking at one of the seven letters to the seven churches of Revelation. These are actually letters written by Jesus to churches that existed in the first century. The letters have great application, though, for Christians today. They point out what Jesus commends in a Christian and what He wants to see changed in a Christian. There is even helpful application for people who are struggling with chronic temptation to destructive habits like porn. Read on - and God bless you! Passage: Revelation 2:18-29* “And to the angel of the church in Thyatira write: The Son of God, who has eyes like a flame of fire, and His feet are like burnished bronze, says this: [19] ‘I know your deeds, and your love and faith and service and perseverance, and that your deeds of late are greater than at first. [20] ‘But I have this against you, that you tolerate the woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, and she teaches and leads My bond-servants astray, so that they commit acts of immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols. [21] ‘And I gave her time to repent; and she does not want to repent of her immorality. [22] ‘Behold, I will cast her upon a bed of sickness, and those who commit adultery with her into great tribulation, unless they repent of her deeds. [23] ‘And I will kill her children with pestilence; and all the churches will know that I am He who searches the minds and hearts; and I will give to each one of you according to your deeds. [24] ‘But I say to you, the rest who are in Thyatira, who do not hold this teaching, who have not known the deep things of Satan, as they call them-- I place no other burden on you. [25] ‘Nevertheless what you have, hold fast until I come. [26] ‘And he who overcomes, and he who keeps My deeds until the end, TO HIM I WILL GIVE AUTHORITY OVER THE NATIONS; [27] AND HE SHALL RULE THEM WITH A ROD OF IRON, AS THE VESSELS OF THE POTTER ARE BROKEN TO PIECES, as I also have received authority from My Father; [28] and I will give him the morning star. [29] ‘He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’ Questions 1. This is a pretty long letter from Jesus to the church at Thyatira. What are the two greatest areas of sinfulness mentioned against this church? (v. 20)   2. What does Jesus say that He is going to do to get the church’s attention regarding their rebellion? (vv. 22-23)   Practical help If no other letter does, this letter certainly demonstrates that Jesus is opposed to immorality and to idolatry! Christian men who are caught up in pornography - lusting for women they will never have, defrauding their wives by the use of porn, feeding the appetite for sex without the richness of a covenant relationship (i.e. marriage) - are subject to the warnings given to the Christians in Thyatira. Brothers, chances are excellent that if you have found your way to the eXXit site, you are sick and tired of your involvement with porn. That is a great place to be. AND, you probably also already know that it would be better if you didn’t view it, so while the message you need to hear is, “STOP viewing it!” you also need to hear the rest of the story. Scripture not only says, “Just say ‘NO!’” to all forms of immorality, it also says, “Just say ‘YES’!” to Jesus. Turn FROM porn and turn TO Jesus. And when you do, He promises great reward. Look at verses 27-28 of the passage above! Let’s all make sure that we are listening to the whole message of the Bible when it comes to issues of morality.
