Practical help
This is the seventh of a twelve part series designed to help you build a strategy for ongoing sexual purity. The first six studies were posted in late April.
Pornographic images viewed online can be forever stored in the memory banks of our minds. They can be replayed in vivid detail at any moment, often at the worst possible times, further adding to the struggle and temptations. The work of renewing our minds and cleansing our thoughts of these images becomes an important part of dealing with sexual temptation and breaking free from porn.
Scripture explains the process of being renewed in our minds in different ways. The following verses provide some insight. Why not take some time to study this process in the word.
- Romans 8:5-8* — For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so; and those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
- Romans 12:1-2* — I urge you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.
- Philippians 4:8* — Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things.
- Colossians 3:1-3* — If then you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
Action Point 7: Continually work on being renewed in your mind through the truth of God’s word.
