Practical help
It can be a difficult thing for us to take an honest look at our personal vulnerability to sexual temptation. It can be more difficult to be honest with others and humbly admit we can become ensnared. We like for others to think we’re stronger than that. We like to maintain an appearance of spiritual vitality and strength. Admitting that we are vulnerable or even struggling could potentially change the way others view us! There’s risk in being honest.
Of course the Christian life is much more than just maintaining a pleasing looking front. God is much more concerned about what’s happening on the inside than what we want to portray on the outside. A good honest and objective look at your own vulnerability to sexual temptation is the place to start. Ask God to make things clear to you. A next step will likely be an honest conversation with a trusted friend. There’s freedom and help in being honest.
In general terms, we fail to recognize just how vulnerable we really are. We have a great ability to deceive ourselves. A warning is issued to all of us because we tend to consider ourselves to be stronger than we really are. The truth is that when we think we’re strong toward a particular sin that is when we are most prone to fall into it.
Web porn does not have to bind you! Begin by taking an honest assessment of your personal vulnerability to sexual sin. Then give an honest account to someone you trust to stand with you. Don’t let yourself be deceived into thinking the external appearance is more important that the truth of what’s really happening in your heart and mind. Look to Jesus for help in understanding how you tend to respond to temptation. His desire is to guide you through a process of growth and ever increasing dependence upon Him.
