Welcome to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand strong in the face of sexual temptation.

This is the eleventh of a twelve-part series designed to help you build a strategy for ongoing sexual purity. The first six parts were posted in late April. Click here to see the first study.

Passage: Philippians 2:15*

… that you may prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world,

Questions

1. How are we described as God’s children in relation to the culture we live in?

2. Why is it important for us as Christians to understand the currents and forces at work in our culture?

3. How much has your own thinking been impacted by the sexual values of our culture?

Practical help

The presence of Jesus in our lives transforms us into children of light! As we abide in Him, we appear as lights in a dark world. But how much do we really think about the difference between the true condition of the world around us and how we have been changed now in Christ?

One way to reinforce our personal resolve to walk in purity and resist the pull of sexual temptation is to grow in our understanding of our culture and its influence on our thinking and way of seeing life. An honest evaluation of the prevalent attitudes and values of our culture related to sexual purity in contrast to biblical truth can provide a lot of healthy perspective. Here are some questions to consider:

  1. What are the common attitudes in our culture toward marriage?
  2. What signals that a person is pure and how important is purity in our culture?
  3. How is virginity viewed and valued?
  4. How widespread and out in the open is pornography in our culture?
  5. What kind of behavior is considered as perverse or deviant?
Action Point 11: Become a student of your culture and its attitude toward purity.
