Passage: Psalm 84:10-11*

10. For a day in Thy courts is better than a thousand outside.
I would rather stand at the threshold of the house of my God,
Than dwell in the tents of wickedness.

11. For the Lord God is a sun and shield;
The Lord gives grace and glory;
No good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly.

Questions

1. What did the author love to do more than anything?

2. What did the author discover about God?

Practical help

Maybe it's time to take a day away with the Lord Jesus. If you have ever taken a day away for the purpose of being alone with the Lord, you know what an encouragement it can be for your spiritual life. If you never have, you will discover that a day away with Jesus will build your relationship with Him and also build up your defenses against the onslaughts of sexual temptation.

Some suggestions:

1. Find a place where you can be alone
2. Take your Bible, paper, songbook
3. Read the Psalms out loud
4. Walk and pray
5. Sing some of your favorite songs to the Lord
6. Be quiet
7. Take notes

As you prepare for your day away with the Lord, go with the purpose of getting to know Him better. The writer of this psalm found that he grew to know God better by spending time with Him. As you spend time with Jesus, the desires of your heart will be changed. The things that pull on the flesh — things like Web porn — will lose their appeal. Like the author of these verses, your heart will long for more fellowship with the Lord Jesus and the fullness that He gives.
