Passage: Psalm 29:9-11*
9. The voice of the LORD twists the oaks and strips the forests
bare. And in his temple all cry, "Glory!"
10. The LORD sits enthroned over the flood; the LORD is enthroned as
King forever.
11. The LORD gives strength to his people; the LORD blesses his
people with peace.
Questions
1. According to this passage, what is the connection between praise
and strength?
2. How can we apply the correlation to pornography?
Practical help
Keep on reading eXXit and you'll find many strategies for resisting
pornography: Web filters, accountability, prayer, visual reminders of past victories.
David, the writer of Psalm 29, offers us a new strategy: praise.
Note the proximity of the exaltation of verses 9 through 10 with the strength God gives
his people in verse 11. It's fair to say David links the ideas. Praise brings strength.
Perhaps our experience with pornography would bear this out. When
you feel tempted to hit the hard stuff, hit your knees instead. Praise God -- even for the
sexuality that attracts you to others. And don't forget to glorify his ability to strip
the forests bare. That same power will keep you strong.
