Passage: Proverbs 6:1-5*

1. My son, if you have put up security for your neighbor, if you have struck hands in pledge for another,

2. if you have been trapped by what you said, ensnared by the words of your mouth,

3. then do this, my son, to free yourself, since you have fallen into your neighbor's hands: Go and humble yourself; press your plea with your neighbor!

4. Allow no sleep to your eyes, no slumber to your eyelids.

5. Free yourself, like a gazelle from the hand of the hunter, like a bird from the snare of the fowler.

Question

Are you in denial about your porn struggles?

Practical help

Verses 2-3 in the passage above urge us to come out of denial about any financial risks we've undertaken.

The verses could easily apply to the way we deny the risks involved in viewing porn sites.

Our self-talk gives us away. "I'm in control of this viewing experience." "I'm not hooked." "I'm not cheating people or tasks of the time they need by logging onto porn sites." Etc., etc.

It these verses are talking to you, fear not. They're not out to condemn you, only to get your attention.

Because the passage points to a way out of the denial — and the risk such self-talk tries to cover up.

Read the passage carefully. And stay tuned for our next studies in this short series.
