temptation.
Passage: Luke 8:4-8* (Today's focus is verse 6)
4. When a large crowd was coming together, and those from the various cities were journeying to Him, He spoke by way of a parable:
5. "The sower went out to sow his seed; and as he sowed, some fell beside the road, and it was trampled under foot and the birds of the air ate it up.
6. "Other seed fell on rocky soil, and as soon as it grew up, it withered away, because it had no moisture.
7. "Other seed fell among the thorns; and the thorns grew up with it and choked it out.
8. "Other seed fell into the good soil, and grew up, and produced a crop a hundred times as great." As He said these things, He would call out, "He who has ears to hear, let him hear."
Questions
1. Are you only "topsoil" when it comes to a fertile relationship with God?
2. Do you treat God like an "emergency fertilizer" for a withered life?
Practical help
"Quick Fix" spirituality — I'll go to God when everything else fails, and then only long enough to get life "right" again. Then it's back to life as normal, that is, with me in control. This is synonymous with a "topsoil" relationship — only letting God into an inch of your life.
Sometimes us porn strugglers get very puzzled with God. Any of us might say "Haven't I come to You time and time again when I've lost the battle with porn's temptation? Why do You keep letting it happen to me?"
The better question might be: "When was the last time I went to God?" The telling answer might be: The last time I communicated with God was the last time I succumbed to porn! Does God like to hear from you when you're distressed? Absolutely! Does God like to hear from you when you're trying to make decisions on how to live your life to His glory? Even more so!
What God could be telling you in those times when you've abandoned Him is this — He wants to be involved in more of your life than just its topsoil. Today, open your bible and pile on the rich dirt. Dirty will never feel better!
