Welcome
to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand
strong in the face of sexual temptation.
Passage:
Matthew
4:1-4*
1. Then Jesus was led up
by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the
devil.
2. And after He had fasted forty
days and forty nights, He then became hungry.
3. And the tempter came and said
to Him, "If You are the Son of God, command that these
stones become bread."
4. But He answered and said, "It
is written, 'Man shall not live on bread alone, but on
every word that proceeds out of the mouth of
God.'"
Questions
1.
Have you ever missed a meal or two (or several in a
row)? Remember how you felt when you were hungry? At
the moment of your hunger, did anything look better to
you than food?
2. Notice where Satan did
not aim his temptation of Jesus? Not at a soft
feather bed for rest's sake and not at a beautiful
woman for sex's sake. He aimed his deadly arrow at
Jesus' heightened sense of hunger for food.
3. How did Jesus respond to
Satan's temptation?
Practical
help
Temptation comes to many
of us in waves. There comes a season of temptation,
which, if resisted, subsides. Many men who face the
temptations thrust at them by the Internet know the
almost frantic "hunger" to view what they know they
should not view. However, if they will resist
that wave of temptation, it will depart. How to
resist? Look at what Jesus did. He retreated to the
Word of God and found strength to stand firm against
the temptations Satan threw at Him. When He had stood
firm, "the devil left Him" (verse 11). When you are
tempted to log on to that off-limits site, find
strength to resist in the Word of God, as your Savior
did. No victory will ever be "once and for all" in
this life, but you will find that, as for Jesus,
resisting leads to the freeing and joyful (even if
temporary) departure of temptation.
