Welcome to eXXit, the web site designed to help you stand strong in the face of sexual temptation.

This is part three of five studies which consider how Psalm 19 offers insights into the full life in God.

Passage: Psalm 19:7-11*

7. The law of the Lord is perfect,
reviving the soul.
The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy,
making wise the simple.

8. The precepts of the Lord are right,
giving joy to the heart.
The commands of the Lord are radiant,
giving light to the eyes.

9. The fear of the Lord is pure,
enduring forever.
The ordinances of the Lord are sure
and altogether righteous.

10. They are more precious than gold,
than much pure gold;
they are sweeter than honey,
than honey from the comb.

11. By them is your servant warned;
in keeping them there is great reward.

Questions

1. What is your general perception of the Bible? Do you view it as a collection of archaic myths, a book of "dos" and "don'ts," or a book of love?

2. How would you describe the perfect parent?

Practical help

Do you wonder if God loves you? (If you don't think He does, click here for some great news.)

Let's compare God to a parent. Some of us have parents who were so overprotective that they erected brick walls in our lives — there were just some things we weren't gonna get to do, no "ifs", "ands", or "buts" about them! Were they loving us? Probably. Were they loving us enough to acknowledge us as growing, learning, thinking individuals who sought reciprocal trust and faith? Maybe not.

Some of us have parents who were so under-protective that the sky was the limit — their motto was "whatever. whenever. have a hoot!" Were they loving us? Probably. Were they so fearful of our rejection of them that loving boundaries weren't even in their parenting tool box? Maybe so.

The really amazing thing about the way God loves us is that his love is perfect. There really is no comparison between his love and that of earthly parents. That's why his law revives and doesn't squash; his statutes teach you wisdom, not folly; his precepts are joyfully right, not sadly wrong; his commands are illuminating, and they'll help you to see. God's word is truly a gold mine. The more you dig into it, the more rewarding your life becomes.

Porn can't be stopped by a brick wall and like Shakespeare's rose calling it "OK" doesn't change its effect. Porn and its plagued patrons are like any master/slave relationship — the real solution is liberation. Let God's loving word liberate you.
