Passage: Luke 8:4-8* (Today's focus is verse 7)

4. When a large crowd was coming together, and those from the various cities were journeying to Him, He spoke by way of a parable:

5. "The sower went out to sow his seed; and as he sowed, some fell beside the road, and it was trampled under foot and the birds of the air ate it up.

6. "Other seed fell on rocky soil, and as soon as it grew up, it withered away, because it had no moisture.

7. "Other seed fell among the thorns; and the thorns grew up with it and choked it out.

8. "Other seed fell into the good soil, and grew up, and produced a crop a hundred times as great." As He said these things, He would call out, "He who has ears to hear, let him hear."

Question

What do most of your friends think of porn?

Practical help

It's just a coincidence — that "thorn" rhymes with "porn" — but I'll use it anyway. They have some interesting similarities. They both have one main objective and that is to snag you. They both have the appeal of a sharp and sleek look and they both only deliver one thing in the end — pain.

Thorns come in many shapes and sizes and in many metaphorical states of being. Looking at verse 7 in today's passage, thorns for the porn struggler could be a running crowd that claims porn is cool and harmless. Sticking with our "dirty" theme, there comes a point at which you must evaluate the rich soil in which your relationship with God must grow. That soil can't be shared with thorns.

Start a cultivation plan. Recognize a thorn for what it is and get it out of your life. You might have to say good-bye to someone you thought was a friend. But remember, thorns hurt when you pull them out. But out they must go.
